Apple has withdrawn from an OpenAI funding round expected to raise up to $6.5 billion, marking a missed opportunity for a rare investment in another major Silicon Valley company.

Microsoft and Nvidia remain in talks to participate, with Microsoft planning to invest around $1 billion.

Venture-capital firm Thrive Capital is leading the round, while Tiger Global Management and UAE-backed MGX are also in discussions.

OpenAI is restructuring from a nonprofit to a for-profit, a complex process influenced by investors.
