Internet Fraudster Arrested After Attempted Murder of Woman in Abuja

A 30-year-old suspected internet fraudster, commonly referred to as a "Yahoo Boy," has been arrested for attempting to rob and possibly murder a woman he met through a dating site in Abuja. The suspect, Joseph Efe, was apprehended by officers of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) at Top View Hotel in Wuse Zone 5, Abuja, after allegedly leaving the woman tied up in a hotel room.

The FCT Commandant of the NSCDC, Olusola Odumosu, explained that Efe was caught while trying to flee the hotel to meet his accomplice. Officers became suspicious of his behavior and pursued him after he attempted to escape. Upon returning to the hotel, they discovered the victim, Olivia Ijeoma Chukwuemeka, bound and gagged in the room.

Efe has since confessed to robbing four other women he lured through popular dating platforms like Badoo, Tinder, and Insta Love. His method involved meeting women at hotels under false pretenses with the intention of stealing from them.

This arrest highlights the importance of remaining vigilant when using online dating sites and the ongoing efforts by security agencies to combat internet fraud and related crimes.
